Journalist and long-serving blogger Sarah Hartley has written a lovely post about us on The Guardian’s Northerner blog, Blog North Awards: Reasons to be cheerful. As someone who has seen the blog awards evolve from its exceedingly humble beginnings, she’s definitely got a good perspective on the competition. She calls the new awards ‘a landmark for blogging in the North.’ Naturally, we think she’s spot on.
There’s an interesting debate developing in the comments, too, about whether The Northerner/BNAs are necessary efforts to offset London’s dominance of the media, or simply reinforce the region’s “chip on the shoulder” stereotype. What do you think?
