The 2014 Blog North Awards will be held on Wednesday 8 October 2014 at 7:30pm at The Deaf Institute (135 Grosvenor Street, Manchester M1 7HE)
This year the annual celebration of the best independent online writing from across The North moves back to its spiritual home, the cosy Deaf Institute. Join us there for an evening of readings from some of the year’s most distinctive new voices, culminating in the announcement of the 2014 Blog North Award winners.
This year we’ll see the premiere of a specially-commissioned new writing from Claire Dean, a long-ago BNA shortlistee whose dark and arresting tales we’ve long been fans of. Her stories have been published in single-edition chapbooks by Nightjar Press and included in many anthologies including The Best British Short Stories and The Year’s Best Horror. Robert Shearman said of her writing, ”Claire Dean has the gift of making the ordinary very sinister, and the extraordinary uncomfortably real’. Her first collection is forthcoming from Unsettling Wonder.
We’ll also be treated to a performance from Manchester’s own wild and wonderful Flashtag Collective. And, as usual, we’ll get to hear from the year’s crop of shortlisted bloggers reading their work, which often provides some of the biggest surprises of the night. Expect an evening of writing, performance and good times as diverse and original as the North itself.
Tickets are £6 (£4 concs). They will be available on the door or may be booked in advance. You can book tickets from 18 August at Quaytickets or by calling Quay Tickets on 0843 208 0500.
